Set in secluded grounds outside the village of Bensafrim, the recently-built Casa da Aldeia is handsome from every angle, inside and out.
Inside, it’s all about traditional style and modern comfort. Neutral shades, pale sofas and polished tiled floors provide lots of cool comfort in the living room. And an elegant archway leads up a few steps and into a separate dining room where the décor is classical with pale walls and dark wood furniture. The mosaic-tiled shower niches in the two bathrooms is typical of the careful attention to detail that’s apparent throughout the house. Another big attraction at the Casa da Aldeia is that three of the four bedrooms have their own terraces overlooking the blue and white tiled pool and garden.
Outside, meanwhile, welcome shade in the heat of the day is provided by a wide verandah that curves around the front of the villa. It joins a broad paved terrace that surrounds the good-sized swimming pool.
If you want to explore, it’s about seven kilometres from the winding maze of streets that make up Lagos. And there’s a range of restaurants all in easy driving distance and some of the region's quietest beaches can be found west of Lagos towards Cabo de São Vicente.
