The Hotel Contessina serves up a striking mix of old-world charm and contemporary style. From the outside it’s pretty traditional looking – all pastel-coloured walls and wrought-iron balconies. But head inside and things take a modern turn. In the lobby bar for instance, retro floral wallpaper sits alongside a spot-lit ceiling. The bedrooms are just as stylish, dressed in different shades. What’s more, they come with adjustable mood lighting, air-conditioning and fridges.

Outside, the pool is framed by a roomy sun terrace peppered with loungers and parasols. Pad across the terrace and you’ll find sweeping lawns dotted with olive and cypress trees. Plus, there’s a sandy Blue Flag beach at the bottom.

On the food front, things have been kept pretty simple. Think fresh salads, bar snacks and a wide variety of cocktails, all served up by the pool. For something more substantial, you’ll need to head into Tsilivi itself which is about a five-minute walk away. And when you want to turn the entertainment factor up a notch, Zante Town is well worth a look, too. It’s a ten-minute drive and there’s a bus stop within walking distance of the hotel.
