La Quinta Roja details
Offering up a good-looking mixture of old-world Canarian charm with attractive modern touches, La Quinta Roja is a hotel with history. It began four centuries ago, when it was the family home of the famous Marquis La Quinta Roja. Since then it’s suffered due to volcanic eruptions and has also been a convent. But now it is a carefully converted island retreat, where you’ll find many original features around the property.
The hotel is of traditional stone with peach-washed walls. The owners have added timber ceilings, thick stone walls and studded oak doors with contemporary low-slung sofas and chrome-stalked lamps. The blend of old with new is passed through to the bedrooms where modern mosaic-tiled bathrooms partner cool bare stone walls and smooth parquet floors. Modern touches are plentiful though including satellite TVs and air-conditioning. The accommodation is centred on a higgledy-piggledy paved courtyard complete with fountains and carved wooden galleries.
