Village Royal details
For a holiday to Goa on a budget, the Village Royal near Calangute is certainly worthy of consideration. This is a quiet establishment in a rural location where guests can relax by the pool or while away the hours with a book on the balcony. There is an open-air restaurant here, as well as a bar, but it’s more of a quiet haven than a party destination. The rooms are spread between 14 stylish white blocks, each trimmed with paintwork of a different colour; the paths that link them snakes between verdant lawns and mature palm trees. Inside, the accommodation is pleasant and spacious, with ceiling fans, fridges and, in most cases, balconies.
The Village Royal is about a mile from the centre of Calangute, though there are some shops and restaurants a bit closer. The resort is busy and popular with local markets where you can haggle and a choice of eateries. Calangute’s fabulous sandy beach is about a mile and a half from the complex – a great place for water sports or just dozing in the sun.
