Friendly service and extremely well-appointed rooms in the heart of the old town

You'll find Hotel Acropol tucked away in the narrow, winding streets of Parga's old town. A small, family-run hotel dating back to1884, it was the first hotel in the town. Since then, it's been run by the Zigouris family. Alexis Zigouris, the Swiss-trained chef, and his five brothers all chip in – from working behind the bar to waiting in the hotel's restaurant.

Décor-wise, it's modern and comfortable. In fact, luxury's very much the buzz word, epitomised by the hydro-massaging showers. Each bedroom has comfortable wooden furniture and a balcony, which either look out over the breakfast terrace or the street below. Some even offer partial views of the town's 14th-century castle.

When it comes to food, Continental breakfast is served on the terrace. Come mealtimes, it's transformed into the locally-renowned restaurant, Castello. You can also eat inside where a glass section of floor shows off the wine cellar below with its stock of over 3,500 bottles.

Parga is a town surrounded by olive groves – one of the main sources of local income. Elsewhere, the Venetian castle and a number of beaches are easily reached on foot from the harbourfront, while caiques leave daily to Paxos, which is just 20 kilometres away.
