A contemporary hotel with plenty of old-world charm – that’s the Aldeia Santa Rita in a nutshell

Made up of low-rise Portuguese-style buildings – think pastel-coloured walls and terracotta tiled roofs – this resort has the air of a mini village. It’s surrounded by lush gardens, too, so there’s a real back-to-nature vibe.

At the heart of the greenery, you’ll find a classic rectangular pool. It’s fringed by two mature trees that offer plenty in the way of natural shade. But if the beach is more your thing, the fine white sands of Sinquerim beach are just a short walk away. As well as being great for sunbathing, it’s a top spot for watersports, too.

In terms of the accommodation itself, it looks really traditional. We’re talking wrought-iron balconies, black-and-white tiled terraces and French doors designed to let in plenty of light. Inside, bedrooms are light and airy spaces decked out in a palette of creams and vanillas. You’ll find simple wooden furniture and beds dressed in stripy cotton, plus modern trimmings like air-conditioning, minibars and satellite TVs.

On the food front, the restaurant serves up global buffets in a white-tablecloth-and-candlelight setting. There’s an al fresco dining terrace, too, so you can enjoy a menu of Indian cuisine, fresh seafood and international favourites under the stars. Factor in regular theme nights and there’s plenty on the menu to keep things interesting. And when you do fancy eating out, the heart of Candolim, with all its bars and restaurants, is just footsteps away.
