These charming apartments are perfectly placed for exploring Tuscany’s cultural highlights.

These rustic apartments are set in Medieval houses in the tiny hilltop village of Artimino. The history of the buildings is revealed in the arched doorways, stocky chimneystacks and small shuttered windows. Inside, the rooms are classic, with whitewashed walls and wooden beams. They have a country feel to them thanks to sturdy wooden furniture and watercolours mounted on the walls in the lounges.

There’s a pool set in a lovely garden, with views stretching out across the surrounding olive groves and vineyards. It’s open during summer months and, as a guest here, you can also use the larger pool at the Hotel Paggeria Medicea, a 10-minute walk away.

Despite its small size, Artimino Village has restaurants and shops that do a good trade in local products like wine and olives, and a beautiful Medici villa. It makes a wonderful base for exploring, too. Montelupo Fiorentino, an important centre of Tuscan ceramics since Medieval times, is a 10-minute drive away. Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo, is around 30 minutes away by car. And Florence is 20 minutes on the local train that leaves from Signa, a 15-minute drive from the village.
