Striking sea views and glorious sunsets are the hallmarks of this hotel on the edge of Isola Rossa.

This hotel is in the quaint fishing village of Isola Rossa. It has an elevated position, with uninterrupted views of the area’s namesake red granite coastline and the calm waters of the Asinara Gulf. By far the best place to take in the view is the hotel’s pool – a seawater expanse set into a red-stone terrace. There’s a path leading down to a decked sunbathing area and the sea, and 2 sandy beaches are within a 10-minute walk.

Tramonto Rosso, the hotel’s buffet restaurant, has a traditional feel, with stone floors, classic red décor, and arches. The menu leans heavily on Mediterranean cuisine, while the wine list features Sardinian favourites. For a standout meal, meanwhile, there’s the candlelit rooftop restaurant. It’s open during high season and specialises in seafood. As for eating out, a 10-minute walk will bring you to a clutch of traditional restaurants in Isola Rossa, while a 40-minute drive opens up larger towns like Santa Teresa, on Sardinia’s northern tip.

Rooms at the Torreruja are simple and homely, with apple-and-cream colour schemes and balconies or verandas. Lastly, the hotel’s spa features a string of al fresco thalassotherapy pools and comes highly recommended by guests.
