Perfect for anyone who appreciates 135 miles of soft, sandy beach, nearly 3000 hours of sunshine a year and great Spanish food, Costa Blanca holidays have been popular for since the twentieth century. Still ideal for an affordable Mediterranean break, towns like Benidorm have recently seen an increase in luxury and spa-style accommodation, so there's plenty of variety. The primary focus is of course the gorgeous Blue Flag beaches, but for anyone wanting a bit of a break from the sand, the tiny authentic Spanish villages scattered inland are well worth a visit. Hikers can also take advantage of clearly marked trails, with some really lovely forest tracks and gorges. The clue is, of course, in the name; Costa del Sol holidays might be famous for their lively nightlife and hundreds of clean beaches, but none of it would be quite as attractive without the year-round balmy weather.
