A beachfront location, three restaurants and a swimming pool designed by a local artist – the Meliá Salinas is a real one-off.

The Meliá Salinas hugs Cucharas Beach – a wide sandy sweep that offers up a great range of watersports. Better still, the world-class Costa Teguise Golf Club is an easy 10-minute drive away.

The hotel’s swimming pool has been designed by local artist, César Manrique, and it’s so close to the beach it’s almost on the sand. What’s more, it’s hemmed by a white-tile sun terrace, an open-air bar and plenty of palms.

Food-wise, the buffet restaurant lays on international spreads. It’s pretty glamorous, too – expect a glass ceiling. There’s also a Canarian house for lunch with vaulted wooden ceilings, and a Mediterranean à la carte with a sea-facing terrace. For after-dinner drinks, meanwhile, head to the Onix Lounge cocktail bar. Featuring a huge Manrique mural, it’s got a cosmopolitan, arty feel.
