As a chic retreat in the centre of Fira, the Aria Lito Mansion, has built a formidable reputation for being in a class of its own. The accommodation is a mansion built in the mid-1900s and in the old quarter of the capital, which means winding cobbled streets, packed with traditional bars, shops and restaurants, close by.

The accommodation is all elegant décor and sophisticated living. The welcoming whitewashed steps set the traditional stage but there’s plenty of 21st-century living here too. There are 15 bedrooms, each with their own design. Some with dark wood furniture, beautifully hand-painted ceilings and cool tiled floors; others are modern with contemporary sofas and bright white walls. All are big and have a private veranda, a bathtub or whirlpool bath, bathrobes and slippers.

Continental breakfast can be brought to your room or terrace at the press of a button, and there’s a light menu available throughout the day. You can also join wine tasting evenings in the Aria Lito’s cellar. Added to which there’s a delightful small, peaceful pool, which is bordered by a terrace with comfy cushioned sun loungers.
