Both outside and in, the New Aeolos is every inch the authentic Greek property. First off, there’s its exterior – all whitewashed cube buildings and blue painted windows.

Step inside, meanwhile, and things feel really homely. Recently refurbished communal areas come with traditional archways, pine furnishings and fuss-free white walls, with comfy sofas and potted plants adding the finishing touches.

The bedrooms follow in the same vein. They’re relatively basic, but well maintained, and feature extras like air-conditioning and fridges. You get your own outside space, too, in the shape of a balcony or terrace.

Talking of outside, the grounds are one of the best things about the New Aeolos. Set to the side of the hotel is a large, rectangular pool set into a wide terrace that has a good supply of sunbeds and parasols. Elsewhere, continental buffet breakfasts are served up in the breakfast room.

Lastly, the location deserves a mention. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill, about 800 metres from the centre of Mykonos Town. It takes about 20 minutes to walk in, and there’s a regular bus service if you don’t fancy the uphill walk on the way back. The buses that stop close to the hotel also take you to some great sandy beaches on the southeast side of the island.
