This contemporary 22-storey tower sits just footsteps from the Malecón, Havana’s seafront promenade. So, not only have you got the city’s liveliest stretch on the doorstep, but the widescreen sea views from the upper floors are breathtaking.

As for the interior of the hotel, it’s all about comfort and elegance. Take the lobby, for instance. Here, polished marble floors are dotted with sink-in-to-me sofas and potted palms. In the bedrooms, soft yellow walls create a warm, homely feel, while simple wooden furniture and big beds dressed in crisp white cotton keep things simple. In-room comforts come in the form of air-conditioning, satellite TVs, and minibars. Most rooms offer up sea views, too, so it’s worth asking for one when you book.

Outside, the pool takes centre stage. It’s a lagoon-like number with a poolside bar. Factor in a whirlpool bath and plenty of cushioned loungers, and it’s a top spot to relax.

When it comes to dining, the hotel offers up no less than five restaurants. Menu-wise, expect a mix of European favourites, barbecue grills and freshly-caught seafood. For a taste of traditional Cuba, head to the hotel’s famous Havana Café. This place serves up national dishes in a restaurant whose memorabilia evokes Havana back in its 1950's heyday – think classic cars and fat cigars.
