Tryp Habana Libre details

Chosen by Fidel Castro as the headquarters for his revolutionary government, the Tryp Habana Libre is something of a landmark in Havana. It’s a glass-glinting skyscraper right in the heart of the La Rampa district. What’s more, it’s just footsteps from the Malecon, so views of the bay from this cloud-hugging hotel are great.

Inside, things are just as grand. The lobby is something of a jaw-dropper. With marble floors that last for ever, indoor palms that tower towards the ceiling and clusters of comfy chairs, a game of hide-and-seek here could last for days. Head for the bedrooms and you’ll find they’re pretty spacious, too. Painted in warm peach tones and kitted out with modern pine furniture, they’re laid-back and easy on the eye. But the best thing about them has to be the views - they stretch for miles across Havana and out over the bay.

Outside, you’ll find a decent-sized pool, a bar and grill, and a liberal helping of sunbeds. Plus the views out over the city streets are pretty good here, too.

But for a real taste of Havana, check out the restaurants, especially Las Antillas. It serves up Creole dishes in a light and airy setting where you can see the chefs preparing the food. If you’d rather stick to something more familiar though, there’s always the buffet restaurant or the Italian à la carte.   

Lastly, there’s the nightlife. A stay here means you don’t even have to step foot outside your door if you don’t want to. Start the evening with cocktails in the piano bar and move on to the Salsa Café nightclub. Or there’s always the Turquino Cabaret on the 25th floor. Here you may just find your stay coincides with one of the regular A-list concerts staged here.
