Moments from the Aegean Sea, this hotel is perfectly placed for exploring Porec’s rugged coastline.

The Hotel Mediteran has an air of seclusion. It’s wrapped in cedar and oak forests on a hillside, which slopes gently down to a quiet cove. There are bathing platforms jutting in to the sea, and trees reaching almost to the water’s edge.

The surrounding area is wonderful walking and cycling territory. A 20-minute walk east takes you to Porec’s old town, home to the UNESCO-accredited Basilica of Euphrasius, decorated with glittering mosaics. The west is more rural, with olive groves, orchards and a vivid blue lagoon.

The hotel’s pool has a forest backdrop and is surrounded by lawns. There’s also a terrace where, as well as loungers, you’ll find a handful of padded wicker armchairs. Nearby, there’s a separate pool for children.

Inside, the centrepiece is the spectacular bar area, which has sky-high ceilings and a wall of windows overlooking the forest. It’s a vast, white space, with clear Perspex chairs and boxy, low-backed armchairs. Bedrooms are stylish, decorated in shades of grey with accents of white and chocolate brown. They all look out over the Aegean Sea or the hotel’s gardens.
