It’s the attentive service, elegant décor and central location that make this place a favourite with both Thomson customers and TripAdvisor reviewers.

Built around a 7th-century tower, the cosy Hotel Michelangelo is more than a little impressive. It’s an unusual peach-and-cream-coloured building set in a courtyard close to Sorrento town centre. In terms of walking times, it’ll take you about five minutes to get into the heart of the resort, while the bathing platforms are about ten minutes on foot.

Step inside, and you’ll notice the hotel has quite a Regency feel – especially in the bedrooms. They’re painted in calm cream tones and come with tiled floors, windows framed by elaborate drapes, and simply-dressed beds topped with wall-mounted headboards. Mod-cons include satellite TVs, minibars and hairdryers.

Elsewhere, there’s the restaurant. With its corniced ceilings, archways and well-dressed tables, it’s an elegant space to dine. The breakfasts are a continental help-yourself set-up. Evening meals, meanwhile, are waiter service, with up to four starter and main courses, and three desserts on offer.

Lastly, there’s the outside area. A small swimming pool sits beside a little terrace with deckchairs, parasols and a snack bar with clusters of tables and chairs. There’s also a rooftop terrace with views across the town and bay.
