Enjoy authentic Greek hospitality at the Bellino Apartments at Hersonissos on Crete. With just nine units, this small complex makes a quiet base for a thorough exploration of the surrounding area – the lively centre of Hersonissos is a 400-metre walk down the road in one direction, for restaurants, clubs, bars and a narrow sandy beach. Walk the same distance in the opposite direction and you will come to the old world charm and winding streets of Koutouloufari, an authentic Greek village as you’re likely to come across.

The Bellino Apartments are housed in a sugar-cube block standing in pretty gardens. At the back there is a good sized pool terrace, with a separate kids’ pool and a well-shaded veranda where you can have a game of pool. There’s also a small snack bar for food and drink while you lie soaking up the sun. Inside, the apartments are typically Cretan with solid base beds, stone floors and bright furnishings of local fabrics. Studios for two or apartments for three all have kitchenettes and either a balcony or terrace with a garden view.
