If it’s all about the pool for you, then it’s got to be all about the Gran Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort. We’ve never seen such an incredible pool scene – there are seven vast freeform pools that twist and twine through a setting of palm trees and thatched roofed retreats, with the addition of nine whirlpools and seven pool bars to keep things interesting. And if you do get bored, then there’s the beach: white sand, azure water and plenty of sun beds and thatched parasols.

The Gran Bahia Principe consists of a series of pastel coloured hacienda style buildings and it’s a resort that has got luxury down to a fine art. It boasts the most of everything – 19 restaurants, 11 of which are a la carte and 25 bars mean that you’ll never eat or drink in the same place twice and there’s a great entertainments area with shops, a sports bar and a disco. The accommodation comes with a choice of standard rooms or Club Hacienda rooms – all of them are bright and stylish with air conditioning, ceiling fans, cable TV, coffee makers and a balcony or a terrace.
