Perched on a hillside that plunges down to the sea, the Hotel Caparena is the place to get back to nature. It’s framed by a garden of cypress trees, bougainvillea and sunshine-yellow hibiscus flowers. There’s a private beach, too, which features a good supply loungers and parasols. And the centre of Taormina is about a 20-minute walk away.
As for the hotel itself, it’s a typical Italian number. Think soft peach walls, dark-green shuttered windows and wrought-iron balconies. Bedrooms are decked out in warm neutrals, with terracotta floors and floral soft furnishings adding a traditional touch. Each one comes with a balcony, too, with the majority of them showcasing the Ionian Sea below.
The deal-clincher of this place, though, has to be the Wellness Club. With five massage rooms on offer, plus a steam room, a sauna, and a whirlpool bath, it’s the ultimate relaxation spot. If you’d rather unwind in the open air, head for the outdoor pool. It’s a classic rectangular number fringed by palms and loungers. There’s a poolside bar, too, so you won’t need to go far for drinks and snacks.
