Converted from an 18th-century watchtower and farmhouse, Il Torrino sits on a steep hillside, looking out across a densely forested valley. The three picturesque buildings that make up the property have been cleverly designed to give each of the seven apartments their own terrace, with a barbecue. And the owner’s impeccable taste and attention to detail means hand-picked furnishings – many of them antique – and pretty, soft furnishings make each one a real home-from-home.

We’ve chosen what we consider to be the three finest for Simply guests. 'Petrarca', in the main house, is a cosy one-bedroom ground floor apartment, while 'D'Annunzio', on the upper floor of the neighbouring house, has two bedrooms. It’s got wonderful views and has access to a ground level terrace just outside the apartment. Exquisitely furnished, with tall ceilings, and a private terrace, ‘Magnifico’ – the largest accommodation – fully lives up to its name. A split-level, semi-detached cottage, it has three bedrooms and three shower rooms.

There are lots of nooks where you can relax around the shared swimming pool, which has a separate shallow pool for children. And for some activity, there’s a tennis court and fine walks in the surrounding countryside. Being at the centre of the Florence, Siena and Pisa triangle makes this an excellent base for exploring Renaissance art and architecture, too.
