Iliada Studios details

The friendly, family-run Iliada offers traditional Greek hospitality within easy reach of Perivolos’ stretch of black sand.

This typically Greek property is designed in the traditional Cycladic style, with whitewashed walls and an abundance of arches. Inside, the 20 studios are simple spaces with tiled floors and whitewashed walls. All have small kitchenettes and balconies or terraces. Maisonettes follow a similar theme, and have an extra bed on a mezzanine level.

The Iliada is run by Nikos and his family, who’ll treat you like a guest in their home. They run weekly Greek food tasting evenings. They put on a weekly barbecue evening, too, where guests are invited to join in with the plate smashing and traditional dancing.

The pool is tucked in to a walled garden that’s dotted with palm trees and bougainvillea. It has a whirlpool bath and pool bar serving freshly-made cocktails and snacks like club sandwiches.

In terms of location, the Iliada is 5 minutes’ walk from Perivolos Beach. The stretch of black sand here is fringed by tavernas and bars. You can walk along the beach to Perissa, home to the dramatic cliffs of Mesa Vouno – it takes about 30 minutes. And if you’d like to venture further afield, the bus stop at the end of the road takes you all over the island, including Thira, Santorini’s capital.
