It’s hard to know where to start with the stunning modern Hotel Kompas. Situated on the waterfront on the scene-stealing Lapad Peninsula on the Dubrovnik Riviera, guests have instant access to a charming waterfront promenade and a sheltered sandy beach. The views from the rooftop pool, on the other hand, are enough to keep you pinned to your lounger – wooded hills rolling down to the coast, a sapphire blue sea and distant islands – simply mesmerising. Add to that a poolside bar, an indoor pool with sauna and Jacuzzi, a fitness centre, massage treatments (local charge), and you’ll be able to turn relaxation into an art form.

Staying at the Kompas is also something of a culinary treat. There are two restaurants, one of which serves the most lavish buffets imaginable, while the other offers a la carte dining. In addition, there’s a cafe for coffees and snacks and an aperitif bar with plush sofas and panoramic views. The bedrooms here are supremely comfortable, with contemporary furnishings, minibars, satellite TV and air conditioning.
