Soon after you arrive you will be enjoying a cocktail in this magnificent retreat. It’s like something out of the Arabian Nights. The lobby is mosaic-detailed marble, stone columns and chandeliers. And the rest of the hotel follows has intricate ceiling art, colourful fabrics and traditional rugs.

The bedrooms have cool tiled floors, pale walls and soft dark red furnishings, as well as satellite TVs, air-conditioning and balconies. The pool is impressive, a gleaming chunk of turquoise, with sunloungers, palm trees and a lush lawn. There’s a kids’ pool, as well. The beach is only a five-minute walk through the grounds. Activities include windsurfing and pedalos to tennis and minigolf. There’s also a beauty salon or treat yourself to a massage.
