Four stars and fabulous, the Yelken Hotel and Spa at Turgutreis in Turkey, is a clever choice for a seaside holiday with just that touch of luxury. Just metres from a golden beach with a huge diving and swimming platform, guests are spoilt by a stunning pool complex – three outdoor pools, one of which is simply enormous, aquaslides, extensive sun terraces, a pool bar, and an indoor pool with Turkish bath and steam room, gym and sauna. Dining here also comes with choices – between the main restaurant for mouth-watering buffets or the two a la carte options – and most evenings there is also some form of live entertainment and a disco.

The rooms at the Yelken are modern and stylish, with extra seating areas, air conditioning, flat screen TVs and either a balcony or a terrace. Upgrades to sea views and junior suites are available. Turgutreis, some four kilometres along the beach promenade, is a charming resort that combines a fishing village and an international marina, with a main square that is busy with bars, cafes and restaurants.
