With the sweeping curves of an ocean-going liner, the Hotel Olympic Palace on Rhodes is an impressive four-star property suited to families and couples alike. Set back from the shingle beach in lush green gardens, the hotel’s excellent outdoor facilities include two good-size freshwater pools, with a separate children’s paddling pool, a swim-up bar and well-provided sun terraces, a tennis court, mini golf and a playground. Inside there’s another pool, a small gym and a sauna.

But when the activities of the day wind down, one of the best things about the Olympic Palace is enjoying a cocktail at the rooftop bar as the sun sets and the horizon darkens; then it’s downstairs for dinner in the stylish buffet restaurant.
