To say the Port Ciutadella is in a privileged location is an understatement. Not only has it got views over the Med and a sandy bay just across the road, it’s also within easy walking distance of Ciudadela’s boutiques, tapas bars and Medieval masonry. So it’s no wonder this place was in The Guardian’s top ten Mediterranean breaks for combining culture with a sea view.

Built in 2006, this place exudes contemporary style. With a courtyard-style design, the hotel looks in on itself through huge walls of floor-to-ceiling glass. And at the heart of it all is an open-air area where the curvy pool resides. Sunk into a decked terrace, hemmed with white sun loungers and parasols, it’s a sleek sanctuary of calm.

Inside, it’s just as chic. Light, modern and minimalist - think Miami cool not sleepy Spanish. The lobby bar sets the tone with its trendy, white leather sofas and chequered floors. Likewise, the bar salon looks more like a nightspot with its funky bar stools and red-splashed walls. Even the buffet restaurant could give a city eatery a run for its money with its crisp white tablecloths and contemporary artwork.

The bedrooms live up to the rest of the hotel. Decorated in blocks of neutral shades, they come with modern furnishings like retro-print chairs and huge wall-mounted headboards. You also get a balcony or terrace and extras like satellite TV, air-conditioning and a minibar.
