If the Amwaj International Oyoun Hotel and Resort wasn’t situated right on the golden sands of Sharm el Sheikh, you could be forgiven for thinking you’d arrived at a luxurious desert oasis. The traditional red building, lush gardens and swaying palms, clustered around a brilliant blue pool definitely have the flavour of the Sahara, while the gorgeous interiors are both sophisticated and unmistakably Egyptian in style.

There’s always lots to do at the Amwaj International – as well as the sparkling freeform pool with its eye-catching waterfalls, you can enjoy table tennis, water polo, visit the fitness centre with its gym, sauna and Jacuzzi, play tennis or book a lesson at the PADI dive school (charges may apply). There are three restaurants on site, two of which are a la carte, as well as a number of bars including a shisha corner and a swim up pool bar. The accommodation is first rate, beautifully decorated in the colours of the desert sands and featuring air conditioning and balconies.
